Residential schools were first proposed in 1763 when the Indian was vastly a minority in people and in power. The ultimate goal of Residential Schools was to separate and assimilate students from their so called “unwanted” culture. These schools would teach and demand religion upon these students. Churches tore the students unwanted culture out of them. Ultimately, students were forced into a life subject to power and harsh punishment. They were forced to be someone they weren’t.
